On 21 April 2011, the Chief of Police of Sullana Coronel Walter Santín confirmed that Colombian helicopters illegally violated Peruvian airspace on three different occasions. The helicopters, presumed to belong to Colombian drug traffickers, entered Peru on 10, 11, and 13 April 2011, and went largely unnoticed due to the lack of personnel at observation posts in the border region. The government is currently evaluating a course of action and informed the Air Force of the situation.
