Officials from a Turkish spy agency reacted to a news story titled “Syria reverts to ‘90s, Iran abandons Turkey in terror struggle,” which appeared in the Friday edition of Today’s Zaman, saying the story did not present all the facts. | |
National Intelligence Organization (MIT) officials have said some of the information mentioned in the news report did not reflect the whole truth or was missing critical pieces. Today’s Zaman reported on Aug. 5 that Iran has denied Turkey any information on its campaign against the bases of the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan (PJAK), the PKK’s Iranian wing, in the Kandil Mountains of northern Iraq. The story also claimed Syria discontinued the support it had for Turkey’s fight against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and had even started to support the PKK, as it did in the period before 1999. It alleged “some of the PKK’s most important leaders are hiding in Syria now,” according to intelligence reports. Today’s Zaman picked up the information from an intelligence source who wanted to remain anonymous. The source did not share a copy of the intelligence report with the paper and did not allow it to be seen by the reporter. As a result Today’s Zaman has no way of verifying the facts in this intelligence report. Source: http://www.todayszaman.com/news-253271-mit-disputes-todays-zaman-story-on-intelligence-report.html |
