Brazilian president, Dilma Rousseff, invited former Minister of Foreign Relations Celso Amorim to assume the role of Minister of Defense after Nelson Jobim tendered his resignation on the evening of 4 August 2011. Jobim’s resignation comes after the former minister made several critical comments about Rousseff’s handling of military affairs and made disparaging comments about other ministers in her cabinet.
